This week I am going to take you for a walk down a path some may find rather boring. Just saying, be fair warned. I’m going to have a heart-to-heart about transparency and, hopefully, it will not put into a stupor.
Being as transparent as possible without overloading members with data is a tightrope a service like QiT, has to perpetually navigate.
There is nothing we want to sequester under the mattress, as a matter of fact, we want to disclose the whole enchilada, the whole kit and caboodle, the whole ball of wax. We think, no we know, we have some pretty awesome systems. Unfortunately laying out all the details would not only saturate you but overwhelm us as well.
When I started QiT back in 2013, we were uploading as much data as possible to the website. However, it didn’t take long to realize we just couldn’t keep up. We were adding portfolios and different types of charts and tables and because it was done manually, it not only took an inordinate amount of time it introduced a plethora of errors.
As well, the more time spent ensuring the data was “fresh” the less time we had to nurture QiT’s backbone, the portfolios. Therefore, we reduced the amount of data provided but it always nagged at me I should/could offer more. But until I could ensure all the data was updated and maintained expeditiously and efficiently, I had to limit what was offered.
I am proud to say its now all automated. And today I would like to bore you with what you now get and how often you get it.
A primer
Here is a primer on how to use QiT public site (www.quantitrader.com):
For each portfolio, we maintain three equity charts:
- Equity Charts back to 2010
- Equity Chart for the current year
- Equity Chart since the portfolio was launched – real time data only
Each of these charts can be accessed from a portfolio’s Performance page. The Equity Chart From 2010 to Date is the first chart displayed. If you want to view the other two; Equity Chart Year to Date and Equity Chart Since Launch, click the Click Here for Year to Date and Since launch charts.
You’ll find this link under the 2010 equity chart.
Then there is:
- Monthly profit table, which displays:
- Month to date return
- Year to Date return
- $SPX year to date return, you can compare how well the portfolio is doing compared to the $SPX
- $RUT Year to Date return, you can compare how well the portfolio is doing compared to the $RUT
- Trade Count Table, which is the number of trades so far this month.
- 30 Day Rolling Trade List. This one is pretty cool because each night you can check the trades that closed that day against your own trades instead of doing things like having a glass of wine, watching TV, you know those mundane chores we all hate to do. Once you have the entry and exit prices, you can compare these numbers to your own. If you are seeing a huge discrepancy, there is something amiss.
This means the Equity Charts and tables are almost interactive (ok a little stretch) because they are always up to date. I would like to emphasize that they are updated with closed trades only so your entries and exits should be very close. You will not have to figure out which ones are Mark to Market.
You can check your trades in “almost real-time” to ensure you are taking full advantage of the systems.
